The Beauty of Taita Taveta County

Away from the water, Taita Taveta is also a county of breath taking lakescapes whose tourism potential is yet to be exploited. An 18-kilometre stretch between Mwatate and Wundanyi stands out as one of the most scenic parts of the county. NTV’s Robert Nagila went on that discovery mission.

Joyce Mkawasi takes us through a journey into the soon to be forgotten caves and sacred places in the Taita Taveta’s communities.

  3. Wamzedu,
Here is free info about surviving in isolation without external technologies: http://www.ps-survival.com/ People can make teams and specialize in specific teams eri kila mundu ukaie na wujuzi. Jack of all trades is a master of none. Nyumba raigho ra domes niro risebangurulwagha ni mbeo….winds. Pia luhehia bado mseluwonie, Earth changes will bring high winds museriwonie Dawida. Pia wandu wiinge kwa ngolela ra meda, na wando kuko na ndoe risemange……landslides will become very common. Kabla Wazungu na Serikali iseredie malagho gha ploti, wanda waddagha wando kuko na ndoe rimange and safe. People may need to return to that. Dome houses stand earthquakes, winds, lightning, fire, etc http://www.i-domehouse.com/case.html

  4. Ne Mbisha. Ela mnifuye wughoma kidawida siwechimanya sana. The issue of Wambisha is one that need careful research and it may bring alot of painful memories for some sic (we the Wambisha). While i may not be the authority in this issue i know a few things have been written about the Wambisha. One thing i would highlight is that there are small pyramids (cairns) that were built by Wambisha for burial of their dead and these were found in Mbale, parts of Mbololo, and in Mghange. However they were destroyed by people through agriculture.
Yes there could be a relationship between Wambisha clans and the Wariangulo. But today Wambisha clans can be found in Mbale, Nyache and parts of Mbololo.
One thing which should not be confused is that the wambisha were moving south and settled at Ghazi. It is at this time when the Wadawida were migrating and there is a probability that they lived side by side until the taita fought them defeating them and the remaining intermarried with them.

  5. My name is Ambrose Kingada. While the issue of the Taita origin has continued to disturb many, there is some scanty information about the Taita as a people. One thing to note is that Taita did not come to Taita as one group. They came in about five groups.
It will also be important to note that, the Taita were not the only people to inhabit Taita area. They found a Cushitic community that lived there and for sometime they lived side by side and even adopted some cushitic words which can even today be found in Taita language.
Yet the question of the Wambisha (Taita ethiopians/Jews) cannot be wished away. Taita people did copy some of the jewish traditions such as in burials where after burying they placed stones on the graves and by extension, putting skulls in rocks and caves.
These stone mounds are called cairns and a few can still be found.
There is still need for research into this claim.

    • Wambisha clan are from Habesha, an Eritrean/Abyssinian tribe. I am a Mtaita too. Wambisha or Habesha were a clan that migrated from Abyssinia….Ethiopia in olden days used to refer to the area fro Senegal to Sudan. all the area west of the Nile Valley. But Taita had indigenous people of the San tribes of South Africa who were hunter gatherers that were found all over South and East Africa. Wariangulo could also be one of the indigenous tribes of the East African savannas whose origin was also Kushitic, tribes from ancient Kingdoms in present day Ethiopia which was originally Abyssinia. Taita also has people that migrated from the Congo empires and are part of the people of Mwanda, Ng”ambwa and many other areas of Mghange Dawida, Werugha, Mbale Wusi, et, the chldren og Chief Mwangeka the Taita elder who was killed by the British colonial army. In summary, Taita has small composites of tribes from all over the original African empires as well as the indigenous people of the earth,,,,Wadawida tiki! It is like having 5 tribes in one. even before we add in the Wataveta with nilo-hamitic origins, the Sagala, most likely Kushites and indigenous, the Kasighau, a mix of immigrants who came from the Tanzanian sides and the local original indigenous people of the area. The biggest mistake we can make is to call yourselves Jews. Jews are a Khazarian tribe from Caucasus Mountains of Europe not far from Turkey and they are associated with Hebrews because they converted to the Hebrew religion based on the Torah. When some Europeans discovered the Falashas of Ethiopians, he realized that their worship was based on the Torah like that of the Hebrews left in Canaan, long before it became Israel. The Falasha had NO contact with the Hebrews of Canaan. Jews are Europeans who speak a language called Yiddish, a Germanic language. Jews have exploited their supposed position as “Holy people of God” to exert undue influence on humanity for their own gain. Whatever they do is not holy. Trying to align yourselves with Jews is suicide…….you are inviting them to come and claim TTC! They went and took over Palestine just because they have the money and influence. Jews do not have the same history as Hebrews but have written a book called the “Talmud” in which they claim that they are the only real people and the rest are Goyim or their slaves. So, if you claim a Jewish identity you open the door for them to come and interfere with your lives. Remember the Falashas who went to Israel like the Mtaitas go to Mombasa thinking it was heaven? The first thing was done to the women was injecting them with Depo provera birth control to stop them from getting Black babies. Yes…..racism is worst in Israel. The Falashas are always demonstrating because they are hated so much because they are Black. Even the brown skin Hebrews are treated like low class citizens. In conclusion, we Wadawida and other people of TTC do not need any foreign identities in order to improve our lives. We too need to work for unity because we are many subtribes in that County. You need to do your own research too. Wambisha have already intermarried with other Wadawida so as I proudly say, I have the blood and genes of 3 branches of African people…the Habesha Kushites, the Niger-Congo Bantu who were originally from the Nile, and the purest indigenous blood of San hunter gatherers….weke Marura of TTC….the indigenous Wadawida Tiki of TTC. The storage of skulls was an ancient tradition from the Nile Valley ancient African empires. This storage of skulls seen in the catacombs of Rome, Paris and many cities of the world. In African tribes they made room for them in caves. As land becomes scarce, soon the people of TTC will return to catacombs or else the current Christian burials cannot sustain themselves because they take over arable land. Long ago, banana plants marked graves. it was a sustainable use of land and the skull was removed and relocated to the caves.

  6. Thanks Mkanjalla. I am happy to know that you also are a ‘Mbisha’. It is true about the great mix in mdawida’s blood. It has been proven that the Mdawida genes show a marked difference with its other neighbours (mijikenda et al.) Yet, it still remains a fact that we may truly refer ‘mdawidas’ genes as ‘bastardised’ or ‘hybrid’ tribe. It is a mix up as you have said.
However, while I have tried to critically look at the mdawida vocabulary and cultures, it is still amazing that not much of their culture apart from circumcision, face marking and teeth chipping is shared by their neighbours.
On the issue of skull caves I came to realise that not only men but also women had their skulls put in the caves.
I understand there is need for a lot of research on Taita community.

  7. Me too I suspect our clan is wambisha because of some physical features of cushitic hair especially among my fathers people. Our grand mother too was like an Ethiopian and my father too.Although there is possibility of intermarriages with wasadu clan too at Ronge area.
History is good and its good to know it as says Bob Marley that if you know it then you will be a free man.I too has been doing a lot of research especially on our customs e.g how Kulagua came about and I discovered some of these things were being done in Babylon.Ezekiel 21:21″For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination: he made his arrows bright, he consulted with images, he looked in the liver.”
The bible verse shows although the practice was forbidden in the bible but it continued among the people of the middle east which means there is some connection with the taita people which includes forbidden to eat unclean animals and marriage among close relatives. But my suggestion is why dont we do DNA tests just like our brothers in america are doing which will determine the true historical origins instead of guess work.?

  8. Thanks Peter for your suggestion. Its true we need to do a gene study. I will also wish to ask you to do a study of the ‘ETHIOPIANS’ in Mbale. These guys are amazing. There is some great truth about what they are saying.
At the moment I am trying to get funds so that I may go and do that study. Welcome aboard bro!

  9. We need DNA testing. How and where is it done? Among some of our grandparents and cousins we see one or a few individuals with curly hair. This needs to be investigated.
